Analysis Request – Mycotoxins
Mycotoxins are by-products of microbial contamination with the main microbial culprit being the mould Aspergillus. The warm, humid growth conditions of cannabis also, unfortunately, make it a crop prone to the growth of mould. Mycotoxin contamination can occur throughout many stages of harvesting and processing, particularly if delays occur between harvesting and drying. Using advanced Chromatography equipment Vinlab Pharma is able to accurately identify and quantify mycotoxins that may be present in your cannabis product.
What?
Mycotoxin testing at Vinlab Pharma includes the detection and quantification of the group 1 carcinogen Aflatoxin and the group 2b carcinogen Ochratoxin. Our Total Aflatoxin test includes Aflatoxin G1, Aflatoxin G2, Aflatoxin B1 and Aflatoxin B2.
Why?
Cannabis contaminated with mycotoxins pose a potentially lethal threat to consumers as mycotoxins are known carcinogens. Health issues associated with mycotoxins include cancer, immune system suppression and kidney and liver damage. The presence of any of these mycotoxins in your cannabis flower or processed product is, therefore, not permitted. Mycotoxin testing is also often required for compliance data when wanting to sell and distribute your product.
Who?
Anyone involved in the cultivation, production or processing of cannabis products should insist on mycotoxin testing ensuring only safe, quality products are released into the market.
